(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - An Iranian lawmaker says defending Iran's legal right to use peaceful nuclear energy was one of the achievements of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran.
Referring to the final resolution of the summit, Seyyed Baqer Hosseini said all NAM member states are entitled to use peaceful nuclear energy.
“According to this statement and the UN Secretary General’s emphasis, all NAM member states are entitled to use peaceful nuclear energy and the grounds should be prepared for all countries of the world, especially the members of this movement, to gain access to this energy,” Hosseini told ISNA on Sunday.
Member of the Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee also stated that Tehran's hosting of the NAM summit was a great success for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Despite all efforts made by the US and the Zionist Regime [of Israel] to stop heads of state and even the UN Secretary General from attending the NAM summit, we saw that about fifty heads of state as well as Mr. Ban Ki-moon attended the summit and [with their attendance] foiled all plots of our enemies to isolate and question the Islamic Republic.” Hosseini stated.
The 16th NAM Summit wrapped up in the Iranian capital on Friday, with the member states passing a final resolution, which included over 700 paragraphs.
The final communiqué expressed support for Iran’s nuclear energy program, rejected the United States’ unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, and called for greater efforts to support the Palestinian cause.
The need to combat Islamophobia and racism throughout the world and promote global nuclear disarmament were some of the other key issues mentioned in the document.
